Background information on NCMEC's Sex Offender Tracking Team:
Sex Offender Tracking Analysts
With the passing of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, NCMEC joined in a partnership with the US Marshals Service (USMS) to serve as the central information and analysis hub,
assisting in their efforts to apprehend non-compliant registered sex offenders. The Sex Offender Tracking Team is made up of analysts dedicated to supporting the USMS, Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI), state sex offender registries and other state and local law enforcement nationwide to assist in identifying and locating non-compliant registered sex offenders.
These analysts will act as liaisons between state registries in an effort to increase communication and better track sex offenders moving between states, respond to requests to conduct searches to assist
law enforcement agencies and state registries in their investigations of non-compliant/absconded sex offenders, and provide them with lead packages to assist them in the location and apprehension of
these fugitives.
What We Do
SOTT performs database searches, analyzes sex offender information and provides lead packages to requesting law enforcement agencies.
As part of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), a national clearinghouse, SOTT is in contact with agencies across the United States. These working relationships allow SOTT to
perform deconfliction among agencies. As part of NCMEC, SOTT is able to provide link analysis by comparing the information found on sex offenders against NCMEC's cases of missing children,
child sexual exploitation and attempted abductions.
