Public Critical Incident Planning and Mapping System
During the 2003 regular session of the Legislature, it passed ESHB 1218, codified CS RCW 36.28A.060-080, extending the concept of critical incident mapping to the public facilities.
The intent of the legislation is to enable the creation of a statewide first responder building mapping information system. The first section of the ESHB 1218 provides:
The legislature recognizes the extreme dangers present when the safety of our citizens required first responders such as police and fire fighters to evacuate and secure a building.
In an effort to prepare for responding to unintended disasters, criminal acts, and acts of terrorism, the legislature intends to create a statewide first responder building mapping information
system that will provide all first responders with the information they need to be successful when disaster strikes.
WASPC has identified federal, local, and other funding to map over 100 public facilities. The following public facilities have been mapped:
- Legislative Building (State Capitol)
- Qwest / SAFECO Fields
- SeaTac Airport
- Port of Seattle
- Veterans Arena (Spokane)
- I-205 Bridge (Vancouver)
- Yakima Valley SunDome / Fairgrounds
- Tacoma Mall
