Accreditation is a way of helping institutions evaluate and improve their overall performance. The key to this successful system lies in the consensus of published and circulated standards containing a clear statement of professional objectives. In 1976, at the direction of the Washington State Legislature, WASPC President James McMahon appointed a task force to develop "standards and goals" for Washington State Law Enforcement.... The WASPC Loaned Executive Management Assistance Program (LEMAP) is a program sponsored by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) for the purpose of providing management consulting and technical assistance to Association members. LEMAP is an opportunity for law enforcement administrators to avail themselves of a professional review of their department's organization, operations and management systems. The program also provides assistance in evaluating the agency's level of community service in terms of crime prevention through environmental designs. The review is conducted by qualified professionals from the field of law enforcement management. This service is available to all members of WASPC....
